About Helen Smith ACR

Who am I ?

I am an accredited preventive conservator with over 25 years experience working in historic houses, museums and galleries. I have experience across the full breadth of preventive conservation and have developed specialist interests in certain areas.

I offer a variety of training sessions, workshops and courses either through my structured training programmes or bespoke to your organisation's individual needs.

I design environmental monitoring programmes for measuring and reporting on temperature, relative humidity, UV & visible light. I help clients to  meet statutory reporting requirements while also helping them to answer their own environmental questions.

I train people to use "LightMaps" alongside other data visualisation techniques as resources to aid collection care and display decisions, particularly in buildings with variable light levels.

I provide whole-site preventive conservation audits to historic houses and museums.

I empower heritage locations, including historic interiors, to be accessible through film & TV production in such a way that our experience & enjoyment can be maximised, whilst securing & protecting that heritage for the future.

I work with conservators, house managers & location managers etc. to have the confidence to make good decisions for the location and to know when & how to get the help they need to keep the fragile heritage assets safe while maintaining the artistic integrity of the production.

I offer a structured CPD learning programme, open to all, and tailored training packages for teams wishing to learn together.

I offer training in the fundamentals of IPM, suitable for all staff, residents and volunteers in any size organisation.

I am a steering group member of the UK Pest Odyssey Network, a non profit organisation, advocating for IPM within cultural heritage institutions.
